Hello there, this is my first post in the domain of Cyber Security and this marks the beginning of my journey towards becoming a cyber security professional. I aspire to become a professional penetration tester and a bug bounty expert. My inspirations for getting my hands dirty in this field are obviously, the all time favourites MR ROBOT and Edward Snowdan. Thank you for sparing some of your time, wish me luck! Let's begin...
You may have heard this term quite a lot if you are a tech savvy and are constantly indulged in IT activities. I myself was a technologia lover and was stunned to know about this the first time I heard it.
You know right, how hacking was first time printed on the newspaper which was published in context of computers by the MIT newspaper "The Tech". It looked something like this.

They literally found plenty of loopholes in the telephone line, which were used for administrative tasks and these students misused it for their personal benefit like making long distance calls via charging them to local radar installation etc...
This once was seen as a technological advancement, quickly became a nightmare for the society. In the era of 1960's, which is also known as the age of hardcore programmers, why? Because they were highly intellectual as they had a strong understanding of complex programming in low level system languages like Assembly which is nothing like today. Today's high level programming languages has taken away the fundamental understanding that everyone must know.
The Advanced Research Project Agency that worked for the US department of defense, were successful in creating the first ever network in the world which was known as ARPANET. This specific project was aimed at improving communication between the research departments spread all over the US to reduce the latency, project delays and miscommunication. This was were hacking started its journey and rapidly increased after the very moment.

The ENIGMA machine was also the first machine to introduce encryption and was developed by Germans to encrypt sensitive warfare data. This was the first step in technology to introduce information security which made large institutions aware of the value of data and privacy.
Also in the early 1960s governments used to spend millions on spy agencies to quietly infiltrate rival countries and gather intel on sensitive information and stay tactically updated. Now in the era of Digital world these governments are doing the same thing, instead of spy agencies they hire ethical hackers which are loyal to them and extract sensitve data.
This has brought a rising concern among the society about the security and risk maturity integrated in today's IT infrastructure. These actions usually revolve close to terrorism and the digital world has become a no man's land for such kind of operations which is often known as Information warfare.
This was how hacking began its journey and has devastated large institutions to adapt to a better version of themselves that is both secure and convenient for the society.
Congratulations ! You have come so far and now, have a complete understanding of how did this hacking thing start in the first place.
You can now dig deeper in into the terminologies used in ethical hacking and understand other fields such as cyber security and information security to develop a better overview before diving deep.
All the best and wish you luck!
THANK YOU!
